3 Tips of Edge Banding Types

Edge banding is useful for covering the exposed sides of your material like particleboard, MDF and plywood. It gives the appearance of a solid and more expensive look to your furniture and also increases durability. Common Substitutes for edge banding includes moulding and frames. Edge banding can be of different types like ABS, PVC, acrylic, wood, wood veneer and melamine edge banding.

 

                                                  

 

ABS 

 

These are edging generally used in kitchen worktops. Essentially it is a highly resistant laminate which is impact resistant, thermally resilient and mechanically resilient and it sounds boot of its ecology. ABS edging is a plastic material made edging and different from PVC edge banding. ABS is lighter composition and don’t include chlorine in it and also flame retardant.

 

PVC 

 

PVC edge banding is made of plastic material. It is most popular for melamine cabinets and pressure laminated. This edging is used for a different type of furniture. It is important to choose the right edging otherwise all your efforts will go in vain. It can be used with different patterns and colours. These bands are suitable for surfaces like PVC and melamine. Glue edge bands have glue and also offers adhesive with heat option. Whereas 3D edge bands provide a 3- look to your furniture. With Lac application and UV printing, these bands are extremely resistant to the strong chemical during cleaning.

 

Melamine 

 

This banding is made of melamine and that is why so-called melamine edge banding. To apply melamine banding, sand the edge of melamine to edge band the marks areas, give heat pressure on melamine edge banding and put your cloth iron on medium heat and work on small sections and apply throughout the board. Melamine is laminate but all the laminates are not necessarily melamine.
